The Newly Historic Old Gym
Another wintry day in Nashville didn’t deter big crowds of visitors from campus on President’s Day with a full Black & Gold Days and two afternoon information sessions. Visitors for the daily info sessions likely didn’t know they would be a part of Vanderbilt history when they got up this morning. Just as I’m sure that Alexander Graham Bell didn’t know as he busted a grub on his bagel and lox on the morning of June 2, 1875 that later that day he would hear the world’s first wire-transmitted sound. Indeed, today’s visitors may well look back on this day as no less world-changing. That is because on this day, the Historic Old Gym welcomed its first daily information session. Please give yourself a moment to allow for the historical magnitude to sink in. “And boom goes the dynamite.”
