Waiting List Offers Round II
It has been a week since we first made waiting list offers and the response has been good. Very good in fact. Nevertheless, we are planning to make a second round of waiting list offers this afternoon. The process will be the same as it was in the first round. Admissions counselors in our office will call students on the phone. Assuming those students are still interested in Vanderbilt (or want to consider the offer) we will send an admission offer via email within 24 hours. From there, you all have seven business days to submit your deposit.
Good luck to everyone and congratulations to the newly admitted members of Vanderbilt’s incoming class.

Hi Thom,
Have you not been able to reach someone who’s been admitted? If so, do you just keep calling until they pick up?

Whoops, you’re not Thom! Sorry Brad!

Is it just this afternoon or are you making more offers starting this afternoon?

Hey Brad!
Will all of the calls be done for sure by this afternoon or is it possible that a student could get a call tomorrow? If we arent called in this round, how likely is it that there will be a third round? Thanks for all your help.

We’ll be making calls over the next several days. Just like last time, we do not know if we will or will not be making a third round (not being coy here, I honestly do not know and I don’t want to put out bad info to you guys). As like before, we will have to see what the response looks like from this latest wave of calling/admitting.

Thank you! I absolutely love this blog and think every school should have one it makes difficult admission processes easier. I enjoy your quick responses and it is a lot easier than calling to get simple questions answered. I’m still on edge whenever the phone rings.

What is the current status for students still on the waitlist?
Will there be a third wave of calls?
Any update would be appreciated.

Just last week we went out with a second wave of admits from the waitlist and we are still waiting to see how they respond. We will make the call on whether a third wave of calling will be needed sometime early next week. Thanks for reading and posting a question.

With each wave, are exactly enough students admitted to fill the class? Therefore, if there is a following wave, it is because some did not accept in the previous wave meaning that each wave will get increasingly smaller.
Also, are any of the schools ‘full’ yet?

Also, I’m leaving for Europe on Monday. I won’t be back until June 17th, so what happens in the event that I do get taken off the waitlist? The house will be empty the majority of the day because my mom is going too, and my dad works until 5. We’ll be in contact with my dad, but I don’t think I can call admissions from overseas…

Hi Caitlin,
Thanks for your questions. The math doesn’t work out exactly as you describe, but you basically have the concept. We go out with enough offers (accounting for yield) to inch us closer the number of students we want. As of right now, none of the schools are officially closed.
In terms of your trip abroad, we would try to find some way of getting in touch with you (like email). We actually had some students who were admitted this year who were abroad and we just tried different ways and eventually got in touch with them.
Have a nice weekend,
T
