Kick off to travel season
Hi! My name is Christina Webb, and I am one of several Vanderbilt staff members chosen to write a blog for Vanderbilt’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions, where I work. At first, the idea of being a blogger was a bit scary, because I’m not exactly technologically savvy. When I went to the blog dashboard to begin my first blog (thank you for reading it!), I may as well have been looking at the dashboard of a space ship. But the idea of writing about my job in admissions and about undergraduate life at VU easily won me over.
Once I get the hang of this, I will be blogging about once a week. I think my job is really interesting, and from the reaction (lots of questions) I get about it when introduced to new people, I know that college admissions is in the forefront of pop culture today. I am excited to share the ins and outs of life at a selective admissions office.
Today my colleagues have almost all returned from our nationwide blitz of receptions, which we affectionately call Roadshows. For instance, Angelo and Nick did 5 programs throughout Florida, and I heard about their travels and fun times. I also heard from Joel and Erica, who did 5 programs in the Northeast. I work with students in Connecticut, so I was glad to hear they had a good showing for their program in Fairfield. It is nice to have everyone back in the office, since Travel Season begins next week. September and October are Travel Season in any admissions office, and we will all hit the road to visit hundreds of high schools and attend hundreds of college fairs over the next 10 weeks.
I will leave on my first trip next week, so my next entry will be from the Sunshine State (also my homestate). I’m not quite sure how to sign off here…. so, I will just quit typing.
