Giving Thanks

Posted by on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 in Application Process, Balance, Music.

This morning I found a very close parking spot. And for that, I am thankful. Thanksgiving week is upon us and campus has emptied out. It is strange and a bit unnerving to work on a college campus during holiday seasons. With no students around, it’s just not as fun.

Still, it’s nice to know that our students, faculty, and…well, admissions staff get a day or two off to recharge and enjoy some time with family and friends. During the break, I hope you all get a chance to pause, and think about those things for which you’re thankful.

So, in the spirit of all fourth grade Thanksgiving plays everywhere, I wrote a list of what I am thankful for in no particular order.

Post-it notes, Skittles, red pens, remote control batteries, roommates who lend me their Sopranos DVDs, the hilarious use of the word “Doorbuster”, wheat bread, James Brown (the musician, not the sportscaster), Vanderbilt’s 6th win, Hydrogen being #1, banjo breakdowns, 2 for $4 deals which don’t require you to actually buy two, my awesome family, admissions essays that make me laugh, “West Wing” episodes in the morning, the equal demand for Inaguration and Phish tickets, Frontier Airlines, My 89 year old Grandpa, and the food on my table.

Your additions are welcome. Just post below.

Have a great break everyone. See you next week.

Thankful for fresh picked oranges, old Christmas movies, the whole family (both normal and weird), soft mattresses, good books and especially pez dispensers. Also thankful for chicken salad to go on the wheat bread that Brad is thankful for.

Hi, I know some schools are experiencing significant increases in ED applications despite the current state of the economy. Do you know if Vanderbilt has also seen a large increase this year or not?

Yeah, I had the same question, Erica. I read that Wesleyan experienced a 40% increase in ED applicants in the Times. That’s insane! I’m sure Vanderbilt ED applications have increased, but I’m hoping they haven’t increased THAT much. Especially because I applied ED to Vandy…
If you haven’t seen the Times article, you should check it out. It’s pretty interesting.

I will be thankful if an acceptance letter comes in the mail soon for my son! Any news when they will be mailed out for ED1?

I believe they’ll be sent out next Monday, December 15th. I also have finals next week along with multiple basketball games so I can’t wait for that lovely triumvirate of anxiety! ‘Tis the season =) Good luck to everyone! And when the waiting and stress gets hard, just remember, “this too shall pass”

Haha yeah I applied ED too, so I also hope they didn’t increase that much
