Pre-College Programs

You don't have to be out of high school to enjoy a Vanderbilt education. Vanderbilt offers a variety of programs to pre-college students, including:

Vanderbilt Center for Science Outreach (CSO)

The Vanderbilt Center for Science Outreach establishes partnerships between university scientists, K-12 educators and students, and the local and global science community and offers summer programs including GAS (Girls And Science) and BEST (Boys Exploring Science and Technology).

Blair Academy at Vanderbilt

Blair Academy at Vanderbilt comprises the precollege and adult programs of the Blair School of Music. Its mission is to provide the highest caliber of music education for children, youth and adults, so they may achieve their full potential as artists, citizens and leaders.

Vanderbilt Programs for Talented Youth (PTY)

Vanderbilt Programs for Talented Youth is dedicated to “developing talent in gifted students and those who work with them.” To fulfill this mission PTY offers academic year and summertime programming for eligible students. Additionally, PTY hosts a number of professional development opportunities and serves as a local and national parent resource for gifted education.

On-Campus Programs

  • SAVY – Saturday Academy at Vanderbilt for the Young
    Day Program – Held each fall and spring  on Vanderbilt campus , students in grades K-6 engage with  like-ability  peers  in accelerated courses over  three  consecutive Saturdays.   
  • SAVY – Summer Academy at Vanderbilt for the Young
    Day Program – Each summer rising 1st through 7th grade students take part in a variety of advanced courses taught by content experts. Weekly sessions take place on Vanderbilt campus and are available for all grades in the months of June and July.
  • WAVU – Weekend Academy at Vanderbilt University
    Residential Program – An immersive academic experience on Vanderbilt Campus for current 7th through 12th grade students that offers students a career exploration opportunity in a field of interest or curiosity.
  • VSA – Vanderbilt Summer Academy
    Residential Program –  For students entering grades 8  through  12, VSA offers accelerated courses in 1 –  3 week  summer sessions. Students live on campus and take advanced level courses taught by VU faculty ,  graduate students , and content experts  in a challenging yet supportive environment.  

Virtual Programs

  • PTY Online Academy
    Virtual Program - PTY Online Academy is an online learning opportunity for 3rd through 12th grade students that offers synchronous class experiences for the academically advanced students. Outside of class students complete asynchronous assignments and meet during office hours with their instructor or teaching assistant for additional help.
  • PTY Mentor Immersion
    Virtual Program - Mentor Immersion at PTY a unique virtual experience designed for 10th through 12th grade students offering in-depth exposure in a field and the potential for independent research or a culminating product to be created with expert feedback. If paired with a mentor in the field, students will participate in weekly meetings with their mentor and approximately 2-7 other students in the same mentorship experience over the course of the program.
  • PTY Rising Expert: Mini-Immersion
    Virtual Program - Rising Experts is a unique experience designed specifically for 9th and 10th grade students that pairs up to 8 students with a mentor/content expert in an academic field. This program offers students early exposure to the content of a field, related career path information, and the opportunity to complete a small project associated with the field.
