Sammy Spencer ’18

Hello friends! My name is Sammy Spencer and I am a sophomore from Atlantic Beach, Florida (pretty much Jacksonville). I am currently studying Human and Organizational Development in the Peabody College with a double minor in Philosophy and Spanish from the College of Arts and Science, but all of that could change at any moment.

At Vanderbilt, I have been lucky enough to find a variety of organizations and activities that really spoke to me, and I’ve made myself really busy in and out of the classroom on campus. Once a week, I host an hour long radio show on our campus radio station, WRVU Nashville, to listeners around campus and around the world. On some weekends, you will find me rock climbing, backpacking, or whitewater paddling with the Vanderbilt Wilderness Skills club. Loving music, Nashville has been a dream for me and provides the opportunity to see amazing shows, from Wilco to Run the Jewels, at least once a week. Also, every Saturday morning I am in admissions bright and early ready to give a tour to a variety of prospective students!

Outside of my time working for classes or student organizations, you may find me: reading ANYTHING, doing work for the peace education nonprofit CISV International, exploring Nashville coffee shops, learning how to do an Ollie on a skateboard, playing outside, or spending time getting to know my amazing peers here at Vanderbilt. Overall, I would say I am pretty full of joy when I think about the life I get to live here, and would LOVE to tell you about why I love it (and why you might love it too!). If you have any questions about my experience here at Vanderbilt, how you could fit in, or really just anything at all, feel free to email me at
