Visiting the Hermitage

Posted by on Saturday, December 14, 2013 in College Life, General Information, Nashville, Nature.

As Erica blogged about, Vanderbilt recently introduced a really cool program called Passport to Nashville. Upon its release, some friends and I (including fellow blogger Samantha) decided to go check out the Hermitage on an absolutely beautiful fall day.

The Hermitage was President Andrew Jackson’s home and is 1000 acres filled with fascinating history. When you first enter, you can borrow headphones and an audio player and use that to learn about a variety of different locations as you walk around. There’s also a kid’s version of the audio tour which we listened to a few times and thoroughly enjoyed.

We fit into our surroundings well.

We took in the incredible nature and incredible history as we wandered around the Hermitage for a while and also toured inside the mansion. The rooms are set up as they would have been in the time of Andrew Jackson, which was quite fascinating. We spent a few hours there, but I will definitely consider going back–we didn’t even end up seeing everything!

There are so many amazing historical places I forget are right here in Nashville. I’m looking forward to exploring more and glad that Passport to Nashville gives us a chance to see some of them for free!
