Tour Talks

Posted by on Saturday, December 14, 2013 in College Life, General Information, Nashville, Parking.

Yesterday, Caitlyn and I gave two tours. Two tours in one day is definitely not the norm during the school year, but it got me thinking about the questions I hear most often on a tour. There are a lot of things that will get asked on nearly every tour I’ve given. Those are very likely questions that you, dear readers, might have as well, so I figured I’d answer a few!

A look at me in-action on a tour. I'm the one gesturing in the turquoise shirt, in case you weren't sure.

Do students go downtown and into Nashville a lot on the weekends or do they mostly stay on campus?

This is absolutely up to personal preference. I find that as a first year, I was more likely to stay on campus just because there was so much going on. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve really enjoyed getting to explore Nashville and get to know the city itself a little better. That being said, there’s always plenty to do–both on and off campus, so it really just depends what you’re in the mood for. Some weekends, I’ll stay on campus and maybe see a performance and others I might go explore Nashville or try a new restaurant with friends. Some weekends, I’ll do both!

What is your least favorite thing about Vanderbilt?

Most people will tell you parking (as I like to say, we have a lot of green space but not a lot of parking spaces), but since I’ve never had a car on campus this has never been an issue for me. The following answer is going to sound like a cop-out, but it’s completely true: my least favorite thing about Vanderbilt is the fact that there are so many things going on that I can’t possibly do/go to all of them. There are so many classes I’d love to take, clubs I’d love to join, and trips I’d love to go on—but there’s just not enough time in four year. Is that a cheesy answer? Yes. Is it true? Absolutely.

What’s your favorite thing about Vanderbilt?

It’s hard to narrow it down to one thing, so I also have a pretty general answer to this one—the people. The professors, my fellow students…so many people at Vandy are filled with passions for a wide variety of things and I love seeing how they act on those. It’s the people at Vanderbilt that truly make it the community I love so much.

So there you have it—those are more or less the exact answers I give when I get asked those questions on a tour! Have other questions of your own? Feel free to comment on this post or e-mail me, and I promise I’ll answer.
