Scenic Nashville

Posted by on Monday, April 15, 2013 in College Life, General Information, Nashville, Student Life, Weather.

This weekend, the weather in Nashville was beautiful! I took advantage and did some sight-seeing and hanging out in the great outdoors. Here are some of the highlights:

I went for an 8-mile run through downtown Nashville and around LP field. I stopped in Printer’s Alley and on the pedestrian bridge. I also ran down Music Row and through Vanderbilt’s campus. My run exemplifies the centrality of Vanderbilt’s location. I am by no means an ultra-marathoner, but I ran past the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Bridgestone Arena, the Frist Museum, and so many more Nashville landmarks.

I hiked at Radnor Lake, which is just past the 12th South neighborhood. This is the closest state park to campus and it is always full of hikers, runners, kids and pets when the weather is nice. Also, I saw a really scary black snake in a tree. I think it was a water moccasin. It was frightening, but cool at the same time. I was tempted to touch it, but then I realized that was probably not the best idea.

I went to Holi, which is the Hindi spring festival of colors. It was sponsored by Masala-SACE. I cannot believe that I didn’t go to Holi my freshman or sophomore years. It was SO much fun! Everyone was so friendly. I made tons of frenemies while getting colored and coloring others. There were shaving cream and a slip n slide and water balloons. I kept in tame and stayed away from the aquatic activities, but even still, I had a blast.

Finally, I ran at Centennial Park, which is right across the street from campus and home to a replica of the Parthenon. This is one of my favorite places for running because there is a one-mile loop that is totally flat and paved. It is also great for people-watching, and I do love distractions when I run.

Essentially, when the weather is great in Nashville, there is nothing that can keep me inside.
