HOD Internship

Posted by on Monday, April 30, 2012 in Academics, General Information, Student Life, Vanderbilt Internships.

As a Human and Organizational Development major, I am required to complete a full-time, semester long internship. After a semester of soul searching and applications, I have found an internship that I am extremely excited about starting in the fall!

The core classes in the HOD major prepare students for an internship in the field of their choice. Students can also choose to do their internship in one of seven locations: Nashville, Atlanta, New York City, Chicago, Washington D.C., San Francisco, or London. Although I originally considered moving to another city for a semester, I ultimately decided that I want to be in Nashville for my entire senior year.

After deciding to live in Nashville, I began to search for organizations that align with my interests. I am very passionate about education policy. I was able to use the HOD internship database to find a slew of organizations that would allow me to gain valuable experience in this domain. Although the process can be extremely stressful, The HOD internship coordinators were all very helpful and offered many useful suggestions.

After interviewing at a few organizations, I ultimately accepted an offer with the State Collaborative on Reforming Education. I am very excited about this position as it offers me the opportunity to learn more about the education reform efforts occurring in Tennessee, a state on the forefront of this movement. It is conveniently located right behind Peabody College. I truly believe it will be an incredible experience. Perhaps the most valuable experience, however, was learning the trials and tribulations that go into applying for jobs. Although I know senior year will be stressful for this very reason, being an HOD major has certainly prepared me well.
