MOSAIC Weekend Reflections: A Host’s Perspective

Posted by on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in College Life, Speakers, Student Life.

A few weekends ago I had the wonderful opportunity to serve as a host for a prospective student during Vanderbilt’s highly-acclaimed MOSAIC Weekend! Although I was invited to attend as a prospective student before my freshman year, I never actually got to experience all the greatness encapsulated in this jam-packed, fun-filled weekend! Here are a few of highlights…

LiveVU: Talk about bringing the house DOWN! Looking for some talented kids? Vanderbilt is the place to be. Students and prospees alike were dazzled by performances from a wide variety of performing arts groups on campus. A fan of interpretive dance? Join Rhythm and Roots! Participated in A Cappella groups in high school? Try out and the join The Melodores or The Dodecophones! I literally cannot put into words how wonderfully talented our students are here at Vanderbilt. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved and follow your passions in the performing arts after high school!

Conversation with John Legend: Did you catch that last part of that phrase? JOHN LEGEND. During a splendid evening of great conversation and insight, John Legend commended the works of educators near and far while stressing the importance of attaining a good education for the betterment of society. He ended his time at Vanderbilt with a mini-concert, charming the audience not only with his sharp mind but with hisvelvety-smooth voice. Absolutely unforgettable.

Meeting one of you! I see it everyday with my own two eyes, but seeing the smiling faces of prospective students as they enjoyed their stay at Vanderbilt really was the icing on the cake. I and every other student here at Vanderbilt felt it when we first arrived on campus, and I know all of you will feel it too–the infectious energy of a bustling campus, the calming sensation while walking down a pathway lined with bushy green trees, and the sense that no matter where you go, Vanderbilt feels like the place you belong. GO ‘DORES.
