The Avett Brothers Concert

Posted by on Saturday, October 29, 2011 in College Life, General Information, Music, Nashville.

Last night I went to see one of my new favorite bands, The Avett Brothers, in concert downtown. The best part is, not only did I get to see them live, but I was actually required to see this concert for a class! One of the assignments for my History of Country Music is that we go to a country, folk, or bluegrass concert in Nashville and then write a paper on it. The Avett Brothers’ genre is a little hard to define, but since they have certain elements of country, folk, and bluegrass in their music I decided that I would see them for my class.

The concert took place at Bridgestone Arena, which is where the Nashville Predators play. I took one of my best friends to the concert with me, and we arrived just as the opening act was ending. We had a great view of the stage, and the music was fantastic! Prior to this concert I had a couple of The Avett Brothers’ albums on my iPod, but I was concerned I wouldn’t know a lot of the music they were performing. I actually ended up knowing most of it! The band was very entertaining, and I was impressed by how good they sounded live, since at most of the concerts I have been to in the past I had been underwhelmed by how the artist sounded live. At one point in the concert one of the band members did a few songs where it was just him and a guitar, and the final song they performed they did a cappella. Going to this concert just solidified how much I enjoy The Avett Brothers’ music, and after the concert I went home and bought several of their albums for my iPod.

Going to this concert was a great way to spend my Friday night. I got to see a great show downtown, and I ended up discovering that I really do enjoy their style of music. I am glad that I decided to take History of Country Music because it has allowed me to experience new types of music and discover new artists that I enjoy.
