Going into the college application process, I was looking for four things: good academics, opportunities to get involved with the arts, a diverse social scene, and a location outside of Tennessee. Being a huge fan of its athletics all my life, Vanderbilt had been on my radar since the last time the basketball team won an SEC championship (which was not recent). However, I had never seen main campus because I spent most of my time at Memorial Gym or the football stadium. In early November of 2018, I toured the campus and immediately fell in love with the culture and the people and had everything I wanted, but it was so close to home. As much as I loved high school, I wanted a chance to meet new people and discover unexplored passions without any obligations from the past. I'll skip the next few months of patient waiting and unnecessary stress, but come late March, three schools waitlisted me and two more sent rejection letters. Of course, Vanderbilt was the last of my schools to send out decisions (to build up as much suspense as possible). In a fortunate change of events, Vandy accepted me into the Class of 2023. I know college admissions is never personal, but my acceptance made me feel wanted. The people, faculty, and culture of Vanderbilt continue to reaffirm this feeling of acceptance and being wanted every day. I've never felt like Vandy is too close to home because, at this point, it is my home.
Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.
Tongue 'N' Cheek is undoubtedly my favorite group on campus. For the those unfamiliar with the organization, Tongue 'N' Cheek is Vanderbilt's premier (and only) improv comedy troupe. Everyone in the group is so kind, and none of the work I put in feels like actual work!
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
My favorite class is Acting I because it is so different from my other classes. I'm always on my feet doing what I love, and my professor genuinely cares about me and my education.
Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.
Every year, over 40 artists perform in Nashville's monthlong music festival Live on the Green. So, at the beginning of the year, a few friends and I crammed into an Uber and made the most of Music City! Not only did we see some amazing sets but I bonded with some of my best friends to this day.
