Why Vanderbilt

I looked at at least a dozen schools when applying to college but no school seemed to emphasize student health more than Vanderbilt. From rock climbing walls and unlimited squat racks in the Recreation and Wellness Center to the free massages offered in the Center for Student Wellbeing, Vanderbilt does all it can to enrich the physical and mental health of its students. By not having to worry about overwhelming stress or bad health here, I can use all my time to pursue my passions both inside and outside of the classroom.

Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.

I'm incredibly excited to join Alternative Spring Break, an organization of hundreds of students that arrange week-long service trips during spring break. This year, I plan on traveling to Chicago to help Holocaust survivors tell their stories through art therapy.

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

My favorite class is Modern Art History: 1945 to Present, taught by the former chief curator of an art museum in Mississippi. As part of this class, I get to go to galleries across Nashville during class and study modern art. My major in Psychology allows me to understand human cognition and this class complements my education well by helping me understand the process of human expression through art.

Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.

The best part of my freshman year was the warm welcome all first year students got to the Music City. Each student got a free Beyonce & Jay Z ticket during the last day of orientation as a surprise. For three hours, I stood with people who later became my best friends and we all witnessed a goddess sing and dance her heart out for three hours. Jay Z was somewhat decent too I guess??
