Vanderbilt does an amazing job encouraging its students to try new things, and to find and pursue their passions. This creates a student body that loves taking advantage of the many organizations, classes, and resources on campus, as well as all that Nashville has to offer. The students are driven, passionate, collaborative, and kind people. This unique campus culture is why I choose to call Vanderbilt home, not to mention the flexible academics and amazing resources.

In my first year, I really came to love Vanderbilt ASB-Alternative Spring Break. The organization allows you to travel somewhere in America during spring break and volunteer for a week with a group of 10-12 students, with reflective meetings on the value and detriments of service in the months leading up to the trip. ASB allowed me to meet new people and really learn about their lives and perspectives, while also allowing meto learn from an immersive volunteer experience.

I really enjoyed the introductory engineering modules that students in the School of Engineering are required to take their first semester. In particular, thebiomedical engineering module involved developing a prototype for a device to address a real-world problem in the biomedical engineering field. We had to think of a way to make the product affordable, accessible, and effective, and I really enjoyed havingto think through the design process that way.
