Why Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt was my first-choice for a few reasons: the city, the community, and the sports. The campus' centrality to downtown Nashville makes it perfect for exploring on the weekends, where neighboring villages have great shops, theaters, and restaurants. Vandy is also home to a very strong sense of community, and pride in Vanderbilt Athletics plays a large part in that. It was important to me to come to a school where I could work hard, and play harder, and I feel that by coming to Vandy I achieved that.

Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.

One of my favorite organizations on campus is Vanderbilt's Black Student Association, for whom I serve as the Freshman Representative. I really like BSA because of how proactive they are in facilitating race relations on campus, and they're programming is always geared towards helping students the best they can.

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

My favorite class right now is Black Issues in Education. As an upper-level African American Diaspora Studies course, it's an intense investigation of America's public education system, and I appreciate that it's objective is to learn more about Black students.

Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.

My most memorable off-campus experience in Nashville is having Friend-Dinner Fridays with some of my best friends. Vanderbilt's Taste of Nashville program is instrumental in allowing us to try some of the great food Nashville has to offer all while being able to use our campus funds. Every Friday after classes we pick a restaurant near the First-Year Commons and fellowship, which is a really nice end to every week.
