Why Vanderbilt

Although I wish my story could be more romantic, I honestly chose Vanderbilt due to financial reasons. I was offered such a great financial aid package, I'd be paying even a fraction of what my state school would have cost me. That being said, I think a better question is: Why do I love Vanderbilt now? My love for Vanderbilt is something that grows every day. It's a combination of the limitless resources the university provides for its students, the incredible people you meet in every corner of campus, the engaging faculty who bridge the gap between professors and friends, the lively social scene, and the undeniable academic rigor of a Vanderbilt education. Plus, Nashville is the coolest.

Describe a favorite activity/organization and why you like it.

My favorite student organization is VUcept because it's an active, engaging community of some of the most incredible people on this campus. Every day, my fellow VUceptors inspire me to be kinder, more open-minded, more engaged, and more empowered--and they make me want to make the same impact on others (especially on the first-years!).

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

My favorite class I've taken at Vanderbilt is a beginning fiction writing workshop taught by one of the writers-in-residence. The professor was so intelligent and so insightful, and in addition to helping us hone our craft in creative writing, she also kept us plugged into the current literary canon for short stories. At the end of the semester, she invited us for dinner at her house because she's an actual angel.
