I first learned about Vanderbilt when I was in 5th grade. My uncle was a professor here and said “you should come to Vanderbilt and then you could live by me and your aunt”. As a 5th grader, I nodded and said “ok”! I then told everyone that I was going to go to Vanderbilt. I googled a photo and it was an aerial shot of campus in autumn. I fell in love. I did not know anything about the actual school, but it became my ultimate dream school. Since before I can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher. My passion for children is unmatchable to any other subject. In late middle school, I did some research and learned just how amazing Vanderbilt was, especially Peabody College. My dream school became more of a dream, as I realized it would actually be the perfect place for me. I visited in the fall of my junior year and I did not want to leave. Not only were the academics strong, but the close-knit community feel, vibrant social scene, and proximity to a lively city made Vanderbilt even better. It is an understatement to say I am thriving. The friends I have made are incredible, my classes are rigorous but engaging, and the social life and community is indescribable. I have found my place. The passion and love I have for this school makes going to school easy. Everytime I facetime my parents, we end our conversation with “still living the dream”. And oh my gosh is that true.
Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.
My favorite organization is Active Minds, as I am very passionate about mental health awareness and the detrimental effects it can have on college students. This club is trying to destigmatize mental illness and open up the conversation. It has helped me better acclimate to life on campus and feel more comfortable about sharing my story.
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
My writing seminar class that is an introduction to literary and cultural analysis is by far my favorite class. The class is centered around the metaphorical underground and how groups are marginalized in our society. The thing is, however, that I don't really know what the underground is and that is what I love.
List some of your favorite books, movies, TV shows, or musical artists.
My favorite TV show of all time is definitely Friends. I have watched all 10 seasons at least 4 times all the way through. Besides TV, I love all Disney movies. Inside Out, Frozen, and Little Mermaid are some of my favorites.
