The friendly, welcoming atmosphere that is found on Vanderbilt's campus is like no other. This was a place where people truly build each other up. Vanderbilt was incredibly well-rounded as a school and had a perfect balance between academics, social life, and extra-curricular activities. The city of Nashville, that surrounds Vanderbilt, adds an immense amount of versatility to college life here, as it incorporates outstanding food, music, culture, and internship opportunities.
Describe a favorite activity/organization and why you like it.
I thoroughly enjoyed both of the cultural showcases that I got to perform in this past year, the Diwali showcase and Cafe con Leche. While these events provided a platform for their organisations to present their respective cultures, many students from different walks of life sign up to perform and experience the culture themselves. Within my dance teams, I got to meet a range of new Vanderbilt students that I would not have been able to interact with so closely otherwise.
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
The introductory Astronomy class, Stars and Galaxies, which I took the first semester of my freshman year still stands out as one of my favourites. I have always been passionate about astronomy and this class enabled me to not only step back into this area of physics, but the night-time laboratory that was part of the class allowed me to get some hands-on, practical experience using individual telescopes to study the night sky!
Describe your experience becoming a part of the Vanderbilt community.
As a freshman, living on the Commons helped me to instantly find a new home within such a large university. On Commons, everyone is in the same boat as you are and this really connects you with everyone. Whatever your passion is, there is a space and community for it here at Vanderbilt. I quickly found these groups and joining organisations such as SACE, or partaking in dance showcases, helped me integrate a part of me into a small part of the Vanderbilt community and connect with new people outside of classes and house.
