Why Vanderbilt

One of my favorite aspects of Vanderbilt is the amazing community of students. I really appreciate our culture of collaboration over competition and that each student has a unique passion or interest that they love sharing with others. I really wanted to be a part of a motivated group of learners both inside and outside the classroom, so Vanderbilt was the best fit for me!

Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.

One organization I'm involved in is VSVS or Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science, where we visit local middle schools and teach hands-on science lessons weekly. I love participating in VSVS as I'm very passionate about providing opportunities for students to gain exposure and build interest in science at an early age.

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

Last year, my favorite course wasmy Intro to Biomedical Engineering module, where we brainstormed and prototyped various ideas to build noninvasive devices to assist NICU children, such as cerebral oxygenation monitors and custom clothing for jaundice. Since Vanderbilt is very close to VUMC, we even had the amazing opportunity to visit the VUMC NICU and speak to doctors about our ideas!

Recently, some of my favorite shows have been Money Heist and Black Mirror, but I love rewatching The Office or Grey's Anatomy! I've also really enjoyed reading Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult this past year.
