Why Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt was the perfect combination of every factor I was looking for in a school. It has the access and resources of an urban school, but the campus feels like it is located in a small college town. The academics are taken seriously, and push me to challenge myself, but there is also a community of immense support and unity. It has been the optimal combination of fun and hard work, and the people I've met and opportunities I have been faced with have pushed me to be nothing short of my best self.

Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.

I am lucky to be involved with 'Dore for a Day, which is a really unique organization that offers personal tours for prospective students. Students that sign up to participate are paired with a current Vanderbilt student in the organization, and we get lunch together, attend a class, walk around the beautiful campus, and the high-schooler has an open opportunity to ask any and all  questions they might have about Vanderbilt or college life, as a whole. It is a fantastic organization and an amazing resource for potential applicants and attendees because they get a personal tour and true perspective of the student life here at Vanderbilt.

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

My favorite class at Vanderbilt has been my Applied Behavioral Science class. We have learned about leadership styles, management, and interviewing techniques, which are all indispensable skills for the rest of my professional life, and the class is very fun. My professor is incredibly wise and shapes the content around personal stories and experiences, and he keeps the class really interesting and funny.

Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.

My most memorable Nashville experience is the time I went to dinner with my parents before my classes started my freshman year, and we saw Randy Travis. I felt like seeing famous people only happened in movies, but it was really cool and felt very Nashville-y to run into a country music legend in the country music capital. What was even better was that I spent the following semester learning all about Randy Travis in the Country Music class I took!

List some of your favorite books, movies, TV shows, or musical artists.

My favorite movies are Interstellar and About Time. My favorite tv shows are The Office, Criminal Minds, and the Great British Baking Show.
