Why Vanderbilt

My relationship with Vanderbilt is not unlike a love story. I had first set my eyes on Vanderbilt in the eighth grade and developed quite a crush! It ticked all of the boxes for me: medium sized, in the SEC, research opportunities, big city, lots of student organizations, diverse student body, a reasonable distance from home, etc. By the time the application season rolled around, I was head over heels for Vandy. I knew I wanted to apply, but I didn't know if Early Decision was the right choice for me or not. I came to tour in the fall to help me decide, and I had a special moment where I just knew! Intuition is a special thing! And the very next day, I submitted my application Early Decision. This was me "asking Vanderbilt out," I suppose. And fortunately, they said yes. Now, asI embrace being a Commodore, the rest is history

I consider myself so fortunate to have found Dance Marathon as a first-year student, because I found an immediate sense of belonging. Dance Marathon is a national program which fundraises for local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. In spite of being a national program and the largest student-run philanthropy on campus, I made genuine connections with the individuals around me. It is so heartwarming to serve a cause I care about with other college students who are so fun and passionate

While I am so passionate about my majors and my research interests, my minor in the History of Art was such an unexpected joy. My class on the Vanderbilt family as Patrons During the Gilded Age took trips to North Carolina, New York, and Rhode Island to have first-hand experience with the art, architecture, and sociopolitical ideas we had been studying throughout the semester.

Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.

A couple of friends and myself had won an opportunity to be seat-fillers at the CMA Artist of the Year Awards. We all dressed up and went downtown to the venue, where wewere seated in the box seats right by the stage! Despite crying the entire time (from joy, I think), it was one of my absolute favorite nights in Nashville. Being mere feet aware from Thomas Rhett, Reba, Dan + Shay, and so many stars is an experience so unique to Nashville.
