Along with the rigorous academics, beautiful green campus, and city environment that I always knew I wanted, Vanderbilt really drew me in because of how many opportunities there are here for so many different types of students. I spent a lot of high school trying to fit into a box of clearly defined success. When I came to Vanderbilt, I quickly realized that there wasn’t just one way to be happy and succeed here. The university places every opportunity imaginable at your fingertips, but is never going to tell you how you should use those resources. Instead, they encourage students to design their own paths and engage with an incredibly supportive community to define their own success. Being at Vanderbilt has challenged me in so many new ways and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else!
Describe a favorite activity/organization and why you like it.
Working with the Come to Me Campaign has been one of the best parts of my Vanderbilt experience. As a student-led leadership team, we work in partnership with other student organizations and on-campus resources to foster candid conversations surrounding mental illness and how to seek support. It’s super empowering to know that my community is willing to engage in these tough, vulnerable conversations and is ready to take the steps needed to support students and other community members in all aspects of their life and health!
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
My favorite class has been Talent Management & Organizational Fit, one of the core classes of the HOD major. The professor worked tirelessly to make sure that every aspect of the class was centered around our own goals and real world examples of the concepts we were learning, so it was great to be in a class where I so clearly got see how I could use my major outside of the classroom.
Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.
My favorite memories exploring Nashville come from discovering restaurants with my friends! Since our meal plan has money built into it that we can use at restaurants all over the city, my hallmates and I try to get off campus at least once a week to explore, eat at a new restaurant, and get to know our new home. Top recommendation: Hopdoddy's for great burgers and milkshakes!
List some of your favorite books, movies, TV shows, or musical artists.
Harry Potter will always hold a special place in my heart as the series that got me into reading, but right now my favorite book is the Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo.
I share a taste in TV shows with my grandma: The Great British Baking Show and anything on HGTV!
Right now I'm listening to Daniel Caesar, Troye Sivan, Kendrick Lamar, and Hayley Kiyoko, but it seems like I discover someone new that I love every week!
