Why Vanderbilt

The student's on Vanderbilt's campus are so amazing. They are  passionate about a unique array of diverse issues and causes, and this comes across in the student organizations and events here on campus. They are so helpful and inspire me everyday to pursue my passions. Vanderbilt also does an incredible job of  fostering a community! The commons experience is really special. I lived in Murray during my first year at Vanderbilt, and I was able to develop close friendships with the students in my house.

Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.

Alternative Spring Break is an organization where students spend their spring break doing service somewhere in the United States. Last semester, ten other Vanderbilt students and I went to Asheville, NC to work in food banks and learn about homelessness and poverty. Alternative Spring Break is a life-changing experience where you are able to form close friendships and learn about interesting issues through service.

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

This semester I'm in a small discussion-based class called "How to Change the Course of History" that is taught by Dr. Bess. The class has students of all years and majors, so each class is unique and interesting because we are able to draw from our different experiences.
