Why Vanderbilt

After I came to Vanderbilt for my first campus tour, I definitely fell in love with how beautiful the campus was, but I really chose Vanderbilt because of the social environment here on campus. After my first tour, I stayed behind and talked to some of my friends as well as some of their friends. I found that the people here at Vanderbilt really want everyone to come to campus, find where they belong inside the community, and to give back in some way or form. I have met so many people with so many different interests and different backgrounds, and they always push me to expand my interests and to grow as an individual.

Describe a favorite activity/organization and why you like it.

Performing Soran Bushi in the Lunar New Year Festival is definitely a highlight of my Vanderbilt experience. Itwas such a fun way to meet new people and a great way to explore how other cultures use dance to emulate their values. I would highly recommend participating in one of the many cultural showcases here at Vanderbilt!

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

In Monsters in Fiction with Justin Quarry, we read gothic texts like "Dracula" to modern comics like "The Walking Dead" to explore how literature has portrayed humanity and monsters. Justin Quarry met with every student outside the class to check-in not only on our papers but also on how we were doing socially and mentally at Vanderbilt. He really captured how Vanderbilt professors really care about their students as people and was a main reason why I decided to pursue an English minor.
