I chose Vanderbilt because I wanted a Southern school that balanced both strong academics with a vibrant social scene. I wanted a school where there was strong school spirit and support for its sports teams. Nashville was also a huge draw for me with downtown only being a couple miles from campus. I visited the school for the first time when I was a junior in high school with my mom. I fell in love with how beautiful the campus was during the day, and how alive the city of Nashville was walking around Broadway on a Wednesday night. The thing I loved the most was how great the people seemed to be at the school. I spent the weekend with a friend of mine who was an upperclassman, and I met so many amazing individuals who were committed not only to academics and success, but to so many other creative pursuits. Vanderbilt was a school that checked off all the boxes in a school that I was looking for. I applied Early Decision, and never looked back.
Describe a favorite activity/organization and why you like it.
Diwali was a really cool organization that I was a part of because it immersed me in a culture that was very different from my own. I got to perform Bhangra in a sold out showcase and got to meet people I would have never met had it not been for Diwali.
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
One of my favorite classes has been my first year writing seminar: Disney in America. It was an intensive writing class centered around Disney movies and how Disney has changed throughout the years. I loved the class because never before in my life had I been asked to critically examine Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but doing so with other Vanderbilt peers was a very rewarding process.
