Why Vanderbilt

I chose Vanderbilt for the opportunities. Coming into college, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I knew some things, like the fact that I liked math and didn’t love history, but other than that I was unsure about almost everything else. Vanderbilt appealed so much to me because it encourages interdisciplinary study. I wanted a place in which I could explore all of my options easily and fully. Vanderbilt not only allows students to major and minor across subjects and schools, but the University promotes it. For example, now that I finally decided what I want to do, my major and minor are in two completely different fields in two different schools.

Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.

One of my favorite organizations I am a part of is my a cappella group, Vanderbilt Variations. I grew up performing and knew I wanted to continue singing in college. Variations is not only my creative outlet but my favorite stress reliever where I get to do what I love with people who share my passions.

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

One of my favorite classes I've taken here at Vanderbilt was the iSeminar I took the second semester of my first year. The seminar was about art in Nashville so each time the class met, which was only once a week, we would explore a new art exhibit or museum. It was so fascinating not only to learn about Nashville's lively art culture but also to get off-campus through a class and explore what Nashville has to offer.
