I chose Vanderbilt because of the incredible academic opportunities available as a neuroscience major, with both research and access to volunteering and shadowing opportunities at VUMC. I also chose it because of the wide variety of activities to become involved with both on and off campus with the city of Nashville.
Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.
Project Bridges assigns you and a partner to a Nashville refugee and you go to his or her house once a week to teach English lessons. It is one of my favorite organizations because it allows me to interact with a population that is really unique to Nashville and I learn so much from working with and teaching them.
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
One of my favorite classes was a selected topics humanities course on the refugee experience in Nashville and beyond. I really enjoyed the class because it was taught by two professors and they frequently brought in speakers who were experts in this field. The class also had a final research project and my project was on refugee education in Nashville, which is a cause that I am still involved with today.
Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.
My freshman year my friends and I found out that the Titans were unveiling their new jersey design on a Wednesday night on Broadway. To celebrate, Florida Georgia Line played a free hour and a half concert, which me and all of my friends were able to go to.
