I chose Vanderbilt, on paper, because it checked all of my boxes: liberal arts based academics, strong school spirit, and a wide variety of extracurricular offerings. In person, Vanderbilt exceeded all of my on-paper expectations. The people were incredibly kind and well-spoken, the campus' greenery seemed to glow, and I felt at home on campus. After my tour, I spent two hours reading on Alumni Lawn, and when I did not want to leave, I knew it was the right place for me.
Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.
My favorite organization on campus is Vanderbilt Dance Marathon because it directly serves our community, the Monroe Carell jr. Children's Hospital, and engages the most enthusiastic and compassionate people. Through VUDM I have not only met some of my closest friends, but I have also been lucky enough to meet the Miracle Kidswe work with at the hospital.
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
My favorite class I have taken was a Maymester course, titled "US History from 1945." In taking this compressed course, I have been exposed to a whirlwind of new history and itsdirect connection to the present. My Professor, Danielle Stubbe, has also made an enormous effort to get to know who I am, how I learn best, and how to support me in the classroom. This course is unlike any I have taken before, and I absolutely love it (it is what made me decide to become an Economics and History major).
Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.
My most memorable Nashville experience was going to a concert for The Band CAMINO at the Marathon Music Works. I had neverheard of this band before the concert, but my best friend convinced me to go with her. This concert turned out to be the best I have ever been to; the live band, the lights, and the music-loving-Nashville-atmosphere all meshed together to create an unforgettable experience. I still listen to their music today!
