I decided on Vanderbilt because, after visiting friends here, I fell in love with the balance that Vanderbilt students have between intellectual stimulation and social life. Also, the HOD major was right up my alley.
Describe a favorite activity/organization and why you like it.
One of my favorite outlets for campus involvement is the Active Minds organization. Active minds is a student-run organization whose goal is to educate the Vanderbilt community about mental illness and ultimately eliminate the stigma surrounding this form of illness. It's a really fun organization to be involved in - last week for example, we organized an event on Alumni Lawn where dog-owners brought their dogs and just let students play with them, providing a great way to de-stress as Vanderbilt students went through midterm-season.
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
One of my favorite classes is Philosophy 1002W. Although it started as just an introductory course that was required for my major, it's grown into a class that has taught me a new ways to view the world and a new way to think and analyze the present day/current events.
Describe your experience becoming a part of the Vanderbilt community.
Becoming part of the Vanderbilt community has been easy for me just because of how awesome - outgoing, friendly, approachable, etc. - that the student body is. As far as specific actions I took to become more involved, at the beginning of the year, I went to a lot of different club meetings to find which I felt I best fit into, and from there decided on a few I wanted to focus on becoming more involved in.
