Why Vanderbilt

I initially chose Vanderbilt because of Peabody College; when I enrolled I was studying Education. Although I have since changed my major to English (I still love Peabody!), I have found even more reasons to love this school. My professors truly care about my well-being as a student and an individual, campus is beautifully green, and my peers encourage me to work harder and broaden my perspectives every day. Vanderbilt is such a unique school with a wonderful community of intelligent, kind, and creative people, and I'm so glad I chose to come here!

Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.

One of my favorite things I participate in is yoga at the Rec Center! I love going to yoga classes at home and wanted to keep practicing at school, so when I learned that yoga classes are free at the Rec, I immediately started going to classes! They offer a variety of styles and levels of yoga with great instructors, and it's a really great way to stay mindful throughout the week.

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

My favorite class so far at Vanderbilt has been an English class about Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson. There were 8 girls in my class, plus our professor who always brought us dark chocolate and fruit to snack on while we read, wrote, and discussed poetry, writing, and how it all related to our lives. There were girls from every grade level in the class, and we formed a really special bond throughout the semester.

Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.

My most memorable Nashville experience was going to the Women's March this past January with a group of my friends. It was a crisp day, warm enough to wear t-shirts, and the sky was clear blue. We got on the bus with our posters and pink clothes to go downtown, and almost everyone on the bus was heading to the march, too. They all cheered for us and talked with us for the whole bus ride. The march itself was empowering, fun, and educational. The sun was setting beautifully golden as we left, and looking back on that day reminds me how lucky I am to be living in this moment of time, in this city, at this school with so many great people.
