I wanted a school that was collaborative rather than competitive and that placed a focus on finding a balance between academics, social life, and service. I'm amazed every day to see the diversity of interests and passions that surround me, and I am incredibly thankful to attend a school that places an emphasis on engaging with your passions.
Describe a favorite activity/organization and why you like it.
Alternative Spring Break is my favorite organization on campus because it takes a truly comprehensive approach to service with an emphasis on community building both with other members of the Vanderbilt community and with the organizations you serve on spring break. I've met people from all over campus that I otherwise would never have encountered because of ASB, and my perspectives and viewpoints have widened as a result.
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
One of my favorite classes is Social and Philosophical Aspects of Education with Dr. Liz Self. In that class, we looked at the different lenses through which education can be viewed, and we applied our theories through simulations so that we could see what it would feel like to be in certain scenarios without doing harm to an actual student or other teachers.
