When I was looking for colleges, I knew that I wanted to take these four years to experience something new, so I started applying all over the place, coast to coast. But when decision day rolled around, I couldn’t see myself being so far from home. Family is extremely important to me, and I wanted to be able to be home if they needed me. At only afour hour drive from home, Vanderbilt just clearly became the choice that managed to tick every box. It was academically rigorous, but at the same time, the students I saw seemed to genuinely enjoy being there. Nashville was an amazing city, and unlike anything I had ever experienced before. Besides being just a school, it felt like some place that could be a home.
Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.
Joining the club lacrosse team has been one of the most rewarding experiences for me at Vanderbilt. When I joined, I hardly knew anything about the school. The upperclassmen were so welcoming, and it has given me the opportunity to meet people who I may have never crossed paths with, as well as stay active, and expand my leadership experience.
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
The engineering modules freshman year were such a unique experience, because they allow you to get real hands on engineering experience your first semester on campus. You have the ability to seeif the path you have chosen is really the right one for you, or maybe discover your love for a field of engineering you didn’t really know much about. After those classes, getting through the tough introductory classes becomes so much easier, because you can see the end goal so much clearer, and it’s so much more exciting.
Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.
The first week on campus my freshman year, a bunch of my new friends from my floor found out that X Ambassadors we’re holding a free concert downtown, and last minute we decided to go. It was crazy to me that it was possible to see such a big name band perform for free on a whim. There were vendors, and booths giving of free merchandise, and a bunch of small openers playingall over the place too. I saw immediately that Nashville was going to be an exciting place to go to college.
