Why Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt has been a perfect combination of academic rigor, an electric city, SEC sports, and a school spirit that permeates every aspect of campus. When I was applying to colleges, I originally though that I wouldn't fit in at Vanderbilt because I wasn't from the South. I already had a roommate at my state school, but my mom convinced me to visit Vanderbilt in April of my senior year of high school. Immediately after walking on campus, I felt as though I was at home! Vanderbilt was the only school where every student that I smiled at smiled back at me; this spoke volumes about the community and how much the other students cared about one another. Over the past three years, I've continued to fall more in love with Vanderbilt and am so thankful for all of the opportunities that I've had here.

Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.

My favorite organization on campus is Dore for a Day! I love the opportunity to interact with prospective students and to get to share my experiences on campus with them in a one-on-one setting. I wish I had experienced something like Dore for a Day as a prospective student, so I'm very excited that Vanderbilt has a program like this!

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

My favorite class thus far has been Neurobiology of Behavior taught by Professor Catania in the Neuroscience department! Although all of my classes have been amazing, I've really enjoyed Catania's lectures and never would have guessed that I would be learning about the sensory system of vampire bats while in college. Professor Catania truly cares about his students and makes sure to explain every concept both inside and outside of the classroom.
