Why Vanderbilt

About halfway through my freshman year in college, I began to have a feeling that the university I was attending was not the right fit for me. I started to have the need for a more challenging academic environment as well as a school that was in or near a city as opposed to in a much more rural location. I was fortunate to have some friends from high school attending Vanderbilt so I was able to visit them twice through out my freshman year. My visit to Vanderbilt gave me feel as if I had an intangible feeling that this was where I belonged. My senior year of high school I made a checklist of everything I wanted in a school and edited that list my freshman year based on my experiences at my previous institution. I found many schools that checked off many things but there was only one school that both checked off everything on my list as well as make me add things that I didn't even know. I wanted. That was Vanderbilt. Deciding on a college for me, however, was more than just a checklist. So even though Vandy met all of my criteria it was that gut feeling that at the end of the day convinced me that this was the place for me.

Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.

My favorite organization is actually tour guides! I absolutely love talking about Vanderbilt and have gotten to meet some incredible prospective students. The greatest feeling is having a Vandy student come up to you, telling you that you were their tourguide and helped them decide to pick Vanderbilt!

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

One of my favorite classes is the history of country music. Our teacher is so passionate about the topic and is friends with almost every famous country music artist. The class, even though it is a larger lecture, is never boring and is always very entertaining. It's filled with personal stories of artists that you would never be able to find anywhere else.

Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.

One of my most memorable experiences off campus was when my friends and I got tickets to see Old Dominion. We found a random restaurant on Broadway and ate on the rooftop. We got to see the Nashville skyline and the sunset. We left and on the way out we realized that we had forgotten out tickets. We went back to the restaurant and all of a sudden Blake Shelton walked out on stage and started performing. It turns out that it was his restaurant. We got to continue the amazing night by seeing Old Dominion perform at the Ryman Auditorium. They even brought out Kenny Chesney, Kelsea Ballerini, and Sam Hunt.
