Why Vanderbilt

To me, Vanderbilt is the perfect combination of everything a college should be. It's the perfect mix of being academically-focused while still emphasizing student life. It's the perfect size where you don't know everybody, but you can still recognize some faces when you walk to class. It's the perfect balance of maintaining a campus feel while allowing students to feel like they're a part of Nashville life. The list goes on.

Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.

My favorite organization that I am involved with is Peabody Scholars. The program allows numerous opportunities for students to learn more about the Nashville community and begin to enact change. I know that I will forge connections and gain experiences through this organization that will benefit me for the rest of my life.

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

I really enjoyed the first class that freshman education majors take, EDUC 1220: School, Society, and Teacher. The course acts as an amazing introduction to Vanderbilt academics and gives students a taste of what's to come. Professor McTamaney really fostered a sense of community between all education majors and ensured that we saw each other, as well as herself, as resources on campus.

Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.

During my freshman year, I participated in the Crawford House event, Crawmazing Race, which was an Amazing Race-style scavenger hunt throughout the city of Nashville. My team and I got thoroughly lost and came in last place, but we truly got to see all that Nashville has to offer. We became closer as friends and felt closer to the Nashville community by the end of the race.
