I chose Vanderbilt because it perfectly combined my need for an academically rigorous community with my desire to participate in an excellent theatre program that was open to all students. I also couldn't decide if I wanted to live on a traditional college campus or in a big city, and with Vanderbilt I didn't have to choose!
List a few of your activities. Describe a favorite activity/organization and why you like it.
One of my favorite organizations on campus (besides Tour Guides, of course) is Vanderbilt University Theatre. There are so many ways to get involved with this group, and I've loved getting the opportunity to perform on the stage as well as work on the costume, set, and run crew.
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
One of my favorite classes at Vanderbilt so far has been my Statistics course. I am often intimidated by math, and was thus nervous to take this class. However, with the help of my compassionate peers and incredibly helpful professor, I learned a great deal about statistics and boosted my confidence level regarding math (and I received an A!).
Describe your experience becoming a part of the Vanderbilt community.
Although I was excited to go to college, the idea of moving eight hours away from home and moving in with 1,600 new classmates was daunting. However, living on The Commons made my transition to Vandy easy, stress-free, and ridiculously fun. It was comforting to know that all of my fellow freshmen were living in the 10 Commons Houses eating, sleeping, studying and having fun together. Sharing so many experiences together as Vanderbilt 2018 made me feel like a valued member of the Vanderbilt community.
