Why Vanderbilt

I chose Vanderbilt for a few main reasons. First, growing up close by I knew Vanderbilt could offer me the prestige and challenge I desired without leaving the South. Vanderbilt affords research opportunities to undergrads like no other, and I knew I would be prepared for success. Finally, Vanderbilt financial aid meets you wherever you are at, and this significantly changed my outlook on attending a Top 20 Private University, and made it possible for me to come!

Describe a favorite activity/organization and why you like it.

My favorite organization here on campus is my research lab, where I have been introduced to not only Vanderbilt scholars and researchers, but outside collaborators. This has allowed me to increase my professional network while enjoying the rigors of research.

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

My favorite class at Vanderbilt so far has to be Human Osteology- for an entire semester, myself and my lab partner were assigned a human skeleton, and learned every bone, feature, and seemingly minute detail. The class allowed me so much hands on experience, discussion, and even a research project at the end.

Describe your most memorable Nashville/off-campus experience.

One weekday my freshman year, I was finishing up a bio lab when I checked my email. Spotify had sent me a notification that Ed Sheeran was playing Nissan Stadium that night, and tickets were less than $10. I immediately bought tickets with my friends, and we ended up riding electric scooters downtown later that afternoon to attend the concert. Being in Music City, these opportunities are limitless and exciting.

List some of your favorite books, movies, TV shows, or musical artists.

I love historical nonfiction books and all of Gillian Flynn’s thrillers, but my guilty pleasure is YA fiction- Percy Jackson, Twilight, and The Maze Runner are classics in my book. I listen to true crime podcasts pretty religiously, and love country and indie music.
