Why Vanderbilt

I chose Vanderbilt because I wanted to attend an institution where individuals were passionate both about academics and their endeavors outside of the classroom. The balance between academics and extracurricular activities is really what drew me in, and every student inspires me with their passion.

Describe a favorite activity or organization and why you like it.

My favorite organization is VUcept, because we are able to welcome first-year students to campus and give them an idea of what resources are available to them. VUcept helps first-years to find their home on campus and introduces them to new people and ideas.

Describe a favorite class and why you like it.

My favorite class this semester is "The Beat Generation's French Connection," a French class with an amazing professor. We alternate between reading literature in French and English, discussing salient issues in class, and pursuing creative projects of our own. This class has pushed me to consider subjects in a more interdisciplinary light, which is awesome.

Describe your most memorable Nashville or off-campus experience.

Last March, I participated in an Alternative Spring Break trip to Glen Canyon, Arizona. Through this experience, I got to learn about and participate in really awesome environmental service, meet a bunch of new people, and become passionate about a cause I previously didn't know a lot about. This was an amazing week and one of my favorite Vanderbilt memories.

List some of your favorite books, movies, TV shows, or musical artists.

I am a huge fan of any book by James Joyce, William Burroughs, and Michael Pollan. I love Breaking Bad and Fargo (both the TV show and the movie). I listen to a lot of music, and have had the opportunity to see a lot of artists right here in Nashville.
