Vanderbilt was and is my dream school. I don't normally believe in "Love at First Sight" but from my first steps on Vanderbilt's campus, I knew that it was the school for me. Not only is the campus breathtakingly beautiful, but the student body is a perfect size as well! I both see familiar faces walking across campus and constantly meet new people. Vanderbilt encourages a balance of academics and social life, and this creates a dynamic and involved community of which I feel blessed to be a part.
Describe a favorite activity/organization and why you like it.
One of my favorite activities I am involved with is Alternative Spring Break. ASB is a service trip over Spring Break that matches you with Vanderbilt students you have never met before. Last year I loved getting out of my comfort zone and meeting new people while serving the Atlanta community, focusing on the issues of homelessness and food insecurity.
Describe a favorite class and why you like it.
My favorite class at Vanderbilt so far has been Introduction to Education with Trapper. Before the first day of class, the professor met with each student for 30 minutes to get to know our education backgrounds, interests, and goals, in order to cater the class more specifically to us. It was extremely engaging, and we even went on a field trip to gather information for a school comparison paper!
Describe your experience becoming a part of the Vanderbilt community.
Before coming to Vanderbilt, I attended a tiny K-12 Charter school. Needless to say, I was pretty afraid of the transition to college, as Vanderbilt is the second school I have ever attended in my life. However, the commons experience made moving across the country and adjusting to a whole new life, painless, fun, and filled with great memories. I can't imagine my Vanderbilt experience without Commons and I have grown so much since becoming a Commodore!
