Scholarship Update

Posted by on Friday, January 21, 2011 in Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Greetings from the Office of Student Financial Aid and Undergraduate Scholarships! I just wanted to provide a brief update regarding processing for both merit and need-based financial assistance.  Please remember, should you have any questions regarding financial assistance at Vanderbilt, you may access our website at: www.vanderbilt.edu/financialaid. Also, you may send questions via e-mail to finaid@vanderbilt.edu.

Ingram Scholarship Program: The deadline for entering first year students to apply for the Ingram Scholarship program was December 1, and we received over 550 applications for this program. I am constantly amazed and humbled by the wonderful things happening to make a difference in the world! All applicants should have contacted via e-mail at this point as to their particular status in the process. A total of 43 semi-finalists for the Ingram have been selected and will move forward in the process. We will ultimately invite a smaller group of finalists to campus February 19-21. These invitations will be extended by February 1.

Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship Program: The deadline to apply for the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship program was January 3, and we received over 3,500 applications. Applicants will be notified of their status no later than March 15. In the past, depending upon the Vanderbilt undergraduate school, we have conducted on-campus interviews for this program.  With the exception of candidates for the Blair School of Music (who are required to audition), we will not be conducting on-campus interviews.

Chancellor’s Scholarship Program: The deadline to apply for the Chancellor’s Scholarship program was January 3, and we received over 575 applications. Applicants will be notified of their status no later than March 15. We will not be holding on-campus interviews for the Chancellor’s program.

Need-Based Financial Assistance: The majority of financial assistance awarded to undergraduate students at Vanderbilt is in the form of need-based financial aid. We are committed to making Vanderbilt affordable with our need-blind admissions policy and our commitment to meeting 100% of demonstrated financial need without the use of loans. Additional information regarding our financial aid program and application procedures can be found at: www.vanderbilt.edu/financialaid.  Be sure to be aware of our priority deadlines to file for need-based assistance. Information regarding our deadlines can be found at:http://www.vanderbilt.edu/financialaid/deadlines.php.

To apply for need-based financial aid, we require both the College Board Financial Aid PROFILE and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Again, please let us know if we can answer any questions for you. Our contact information can be found at: www.vanderbilt.edu/financialaid.

Best wishes,

Brent Tener

Associate Director of Student Financial Aid and

Director of Undergraduate Scholarships

I am an Ingram scholarship applicant and never received an email regarding my status. Does this just mean that I am not a semi-finalist?

I was am somewhat disheartened by the imposed deadline on the Ingram Scholarship. Not knowing whether I was going to be accepted or not was why I did not meet the December 1st deadline. Fortunately I was accepted and am thrilled to be part of the 2015 class. Sadly, I was late with my application because I waited until I was accepted. Why the December 1st deadline if you don’t even know if you are going to be accepted? Thank you in advance for your response.

I am a freshman at Lawrence North HS. (yes i graduate in 2015!!) but I want to go to Vandy. I’ve had my heart set on it for while. I’m a good honors/AP student, but  can’t help the incomprehensible feeling of doubt telling me that I might not get in.Any advice?
