Application Season is Coming and Late Summer Waitlist Update

Posted by on Friday, July 2, 2010 in Application Process, Road Shows, Waitlist.

There is no season like summer.  Whereas the transitioning nature of fall and spring always hints at changes to come, summer just is, content with days that wind together, one hot day after another.  I guess that’s why it speeds by.  In less than two weeks, the Common Application will close down last year’s version, take it offline only to reappear in a fresh version on August 1st.  All of you rising seniors thought you had more time right?  So did I.

So, what should you do after you register for the fall Road Show in your town, and subscribe to the Vandy Admissions blog?   In a word, organize.  For my doctorate, I studied how students of various personalities coped with the college search process.  I found that students whose personality tendencies leaned more toward organization tended to cope better with the process of searching and applying to college.  Use lists, white boards, calendars, or even some of the very cool web tools available now (try Checkvist).  Whatever you use, make sure it is easy to maintain.  Download a notes app for your smart phone (I use Evernote and a paper journal for times when my Blackberry isn’t around) and write down those little “Isn’t that scholarship application due next week?” fly-by thoughts.  The limited capacity of our brain’s short-term memory means that unless you get it on paper, you are very likely forget it.  Especially with all of the dozens of stuff that will be going on during your senior year.  Write it down and do it now.

Waitlist Update

Our waitlist is still open and the class is not yet officially closed.  We are calling deposited students who as of right now either have not applied for housing, or have not registered for classes, or both.  We call these students because number one, it’s a service to those students, and number two to see if they are still planning on enrolling.  We will know much more about the status of our class after those calls are complete.  We know that waiting is hard, and we are trying hard to get more information out to you soon.

Have a great holiday weekend everyone.

Thanks for your keeping the waitlistees updated. I think that saying “waiting is hard” is kind of understatement. I wonder if there are applicants out there who are still even waiting. Anyways, I am assuming the end of this nerve raking process is taking place soon.

I hope I get off the wait list. I’ve been on it since late February. This would mean so much for my family and me. Still have my fingers crossed.

    Happy 4th of July.

Do you know when the class will be closed? Are calls still being made from the waitlist?
