Memorial Day Updates

Posted by on Friday, May 22, 2009 in AP or IB Scores, Commons, I've been admitted - now what?, Standardized Testing, Waitlist.

A few quick hitting updates before the long weekend:

Waitlist Calls Still Being Made

We continue to reach out to students just recently admitted to Vanderbilt in our second wave of calling.  We’ll see what the response looks like and determine sometime next week if additional waves will need to occur.  Later today, we will be emailing out to anyone admitted in wave 1 from whom we have not heard back.  Since the response deadline provided in the admission letter has now come and gone, the email will inform you that we will be closing your file with us.  This is only going out to students admitted in wave 1, who have now missed the reply deadline.

Incoming class of 2013

The Road to Vanderbilt brochure has gone out, and should be consulted to get a ton of great info.  You can also go to Common Place, which is an info sharing, internal social network site just for the incoming class.  Lastly, if you recently took AP or IB Tests, make sure to send in your results so Vanderbilt can credit your record with any classes you may have received credit for based on your AP/IB scores.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Thom, could you give an update for incoming transfer students soon?

Sure I can do that, I’ll try and put something up next week.

I was just about to ask about transfers actually. Are the number of transfers admitted independent of the number of incoming freshmen admitted and the number of waitlisted students that accept their offer? Also, since it’s rolling admissions are most of the transfer spots already filled, if there is a quota, by this time for someone who applied later in school year? Any information about transfers would be helpful, thanks!

    Lena,

Transfer admissions is separate from our conversations about first-year incoming students, and so what is happening with our waitlist has no interaction with transfers. Since Vanderbilt only takes transfer students for the Fall semester, students typically come in at the third semester credit-wise. Our admission deadline for transfer applicants for the fall has passed but some late applications do trickle in, and we do evaluate them. Although, we do say that we can’t gaurentee the same level of consideration for a late applicant as we can for a student who applied on time.

    Hey Thom!

Do you know if there is going to be a third wave for waitlisted students or are you pretty much done? Thanks.

    Maddi,

No, I don’t know that yet. We will have to wait and see how responses come back in from this latest round of offers. I know it’s tough to be waiting, but the earliest I’ll know something would be Monday or Tuesday of next week. Either way, you will hear from us, either that we will be making additional offers, or we are closing the waitlist (because the class is complete).

    Hi Thom,

I am still eagerly waiting on the update for incoming transfer students. But in response to your statement that transfer addmissions is separate from conversations about first-year incoming students, well on VU CommonPlace it says that the deadline to submit the housing request is June 1 (both first year and transfer). What would you advise given that transfers have not received letters of admissions yet?

    Seyi,

Decisions for transfer students go out on a rolling basis, unlike our decisions for incoming freshman. If you have not yet done so, contact our office for a status update on your application (i.e., make sure it is complete, etc.) and check to see if there is a decision.
