Paper Blizzard

Posted by on Thursday, December 20, 2007 in Application Process, File Reading Explained.

Brad went downstairs and got some shots of all the crazy paper we’re dealing with right now.

Though it pains me to say so (sorry, Mother Earth), we estimate that we will deal with over 1,000,000 pieces of paper in this year’s application cycle. We try to use technology to minimize the paper where possible (see the scanning sheet we use below), but we’re still buried in it right now.

I know there are lots of you out there on pins and needles about making sure your applications are complete, and I know it can be frustrating when we tell you we’re not sure if we received a recommendation or not, but we promise we’re doing our best. We also promise that we’re not going to be sticklers about this process. We know you’re trying hard to make sure we get everything, and we’ll always give you the benefit of the doubt, even when that means accepting parts of the application after the deadline.

You think these pictures are crazy? We got 21 crates of mail over the holiday.

Thank you showing us about your hard work. I appreciate your consideration to applicant’s feeling.

I’ve just sent my application materials out to your graduate program by fedex from Japan. Because the far distance and new year’s holiday, I’ve little worried whether you received them or not. Today I found this blog and I understood your condition.
